Four more non-bailable warrants have been issued by a court in Hyderabad against businessman Vijay Mallya after he failed to appear in the court in a bounced cheque case, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, filed by the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd.
This was issued by the XI Special Magistrate against the Chairman of Kingfisher Airlines and its Chief Financial Officer as they failed to appear in the court. The court ordered that the warrant has to be executed before March 29.
While these warrants related to dishonour of cheques amounting to ₹2 crore, earlier this month, another local court had issued non-bailable warrants relating to dishonour of cheques.
According to the advocate appearing in the case, about 11 cases have been filed against Mallya for bounced cheques. The total amount involved is about ₹8 crore.
Earlier, in 2012, GHIAL had filed four cheque bounce cases against Kingfisher Airlines amounting to ₹10.50 crore. The cases were listed then for the airline representatives to appear in the court. Since they failed to appear before the Magistrate, the court has ordered issuance of NBW against Kingfisher Airlines (KFA), Vijay Mallya and four other KFA officials.
However, then the cases were withdrawn after the KFA Chairman assured they would pay up the amount.
Then they defaulted, forcing GMR to file new cases.
Mallya is in news after issues relating to payment defaults and his visit to the UK became public recently.
