Five thousand households from the below poverty line category in Dumka, Jharkhand were handed over free LPG connections on Friday.
This was during the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Dumka. Earlier this year, the Prime Minister had appealed to people who can afford it to voluntarily give up LPG subsidy. It was decided that the savings will be used to provide LPG connections to poor families.
“Under this Give Back scheme, Government has contributed ₹ 1,600 per LPG connection to BPL household while Government of Jharkhand has contributed ₹ 918.50 per household connection,” the Ministry for Petroleum and Natural Gas said in a statement.
