Ayurveda has just taken a digital route to reach out to a global audience captivated by its version of the science of life.

On Tuesday, Kerala Tourism launched two e-books on Ayurveda in what is being claimed as the first such attempt by a tourism board in the country.

MORE LAUNCHES

A.P. Anil Kumar, tourism minister, released the two e-books, at a function held here, an official spokesman said.

Two other e-books, dealing respectively with the State’s socio-cultural history and yoga and healthy living, also saw the light of the day.

Other launches included a 15-minute film on Western Ghats; brochures on the excavations around the ancient port of Muziris, near Kochi, and a festivals and events calendar of the State for 2013.

Among those present were Suman Billa, secretary, tourism; Vijayan Thomas, chairman, and N. Prashant, managing director of Kerala State Tourism Corporation.

COFFEE-TABLE BOOKS

E-books on Ayurveda included award-winning coffee-table books ‘Panchakarma: Ayurveda’s Mantra of Rejuvenation’ and ‘Ayurveda: The Mantra of Niramaya.’

Others are ‘Kerala: A Poem in Green and Gold,’ K. Jayakumar, former chief secretary, and ‘YogaSutra: The Art and Science of Living.’

Published by IT solutions provider Invis Multimedia, all e-books will be available at online stores for easy reading on e-book readers, mobile phones or computer screens.

The digitisation of the four coffee table books was sponsored by Kerala Tourism, the spokesman said.

AGE-OLD SYSTEM

“E-books on Ayurveda are aimed to help people learn about the age-old system of medicine so that they can come to Kerala and experience the health benefits,” minister Anil Kumar said.

“The e-books are part of our continuing efforts to inform the global audience about Kerala and to help them become a part of the experience that is Kerala,” said Suman Billa.

Those buying the Ayurveda e-books will get free e-brochure on Kerala Tourism.

At the end of each chapter, a link to the Webs ite of Kerala Tourism provides instant reference for the readers about Kerala as a top tourism destination in the world.

THE ‘WILD’ FILM

Titled The Call of the Wild, the 15-minute film on Kerala's Western Ghats cover seven major locations and the northern and southern bordering points of the Ghats in the State.

Meanwhile, an international conference on travel technology will be held from June 7 to 9, 2013, at Kovalam, to promote tourism through social media, the spokesman said.

It aims at preparing the travel and tourism partners to use resources available online to drive business, get inputs in adapting to changing technology and acquire skills to beat competition.
