The stage is set for the Global Healthcare Summit 2013 to be held at Le Meridien Convention Centre here from January 1.

The three-day summit is organised by the Association of American Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), Global Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (GAPIO) and Indian Medical Association (IMA) in collaboration with the Union Ministries of Overseas Indian Affairs and Health.

It is pointed out that the summit will provide an opportunity for governments and healthcare industry in finding innovative and cost-effective health solutions besides striking strategic alliances and luring investments.

Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi and Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, senior officials, policymakers, some of the world’s most renowned physicians, industry captains and a large number of eminent doctors will participate in the event.

It’s for the first time that Kerala is hosting the summit, which is a transformation of the Indo-US Healthcare Summit launched by AAPI in 2006, as a public-private partnership initiative to better the healthcare system in India with the help of Indian physicians working across the globe.

Narendra Kumar, president, AAPI, said the conference would facilitate strategic alliances, transfer of know-how, in-depth discussions on the latest advances in the healthcare sector, exchange of ideas to find the best-suited solutions for the Indian industry and give a major push to India’s ambitions to emerge as a global hub for medical tourism.

This innovative summit is aimed at advancing the accessibility, affordability and the quality of world-class healthcare to the people of India.

Among other areas, the summit will focus on prevention, diagnosis, treatment options and share ways to truly improve healthcare transcending global boundaries, he said.

GHS 2013 will include a scientific programme developed by leading experts with contributions by the Scientific Advisory Board and International Scientific Committee. It will cover high priority areas such as cardiology, diabetes, oncology, surgery etc.
