The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has cancelled registrations of 17 multi-system operators, including Kalanithi Maran’s Kal Cables Pvt Ltd.
According to the Ministry, it has revoked the permanent registration of Kal Cables for operating in Chennai metropolitan area. It has also cancelled the provisional registration of the company to operate in the phase II cities under the Digital Addressable System.
An official statement said that both the registrations of the company have been cancelled on August 20 due to denial of security clearance by Ministry of Home Affairs.
According to media reports, the company has approached Madras High Court against this decision.
Kal Cables had got permanent registration to operate in Chennai metropolitan area on June 19, 2012, while it was granted provisional registration to operate in Phase II cities on March 7, 2013.
Some of the other MSOs whose registration had been cancelled include Amritsar- based Godfather Communication, Phulwana-based Arshad Cable, and Digicable Communication for operation in Kolkata and Howrah.
The Ministry had earlier granted MSOs provisional registrations to be able to facilitate them to operate in cities that come under Phase 2 and meet the deadline set in March end last year. Meanwhile, the Ministry also granted permanent registration of 10 years to 112 Multi System Operators for running their services across various DAS cities.
Some of the key players mentioned in the list put up on the Ministry’s websites include Den Network, Hathway, Digicable Network, and IndusInd Media and Communications.
