Thousands of people across five States in the country will be trained in cardio pulmonary resuscitation to save lives.

According to American Heart Association, chest compression-only resuscitation is easy and less invasive.

BLOOD FLOW

It helps bystanders to keep the blood flowing through the heart of person who has had a heart attack.

It does not require mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and has been found to be effective in saving lives.

Ziqitza Healthcare, which runs Dial ‘108’ and ‘1298’ ambulance services in these States, has joined with American Medical Response to carry out the training.

This is being taken up as part of observation of the National Emergency Medical Services Week, a Ziqitza spokesman said here.

The States chosen are Kerala, Punjab, Bihar, Odisha and Maharashtra, where Ziqitza operates the emergency care services.

American Medical Response is among the largest provider of emergency ambulance service in the developed world.

ZIQITZA INVESTOR

It deals with at least five million requests for ambulance service each year with over 18,000 certified emergency medical technicians, nurses and other people.

It operates 3,000 ambulances each day through 50 call centres across the US and the Caribbean and is a key investor in Ziqitza, which operates 900 ambulances in India.

As part of the joint initiative, training was conducted in Kochi and Thiruvananthapuram in which 80 people participated.

The ‘108’ ambulance often gets to an emergency within minutes but during cardiac arrest every second proves critical, says Sweta Mangal, chief executive, Ziqitza.

Cardio pulmonary resuscitation helps save lives and is easy to perform. “We hope to get more people involved in the training,” she added.
