Helen LaFave took over as the US Consul General in Kolkata on August 24.
According to a release by US Consulate General Kolkata, LaFave served as the Deputy Director for Arabian Peninsula Affairs in the Near Eastern Affairs Bureau at the US State Department before coming to Kolkata. She succeeded Dean Thompson as the US Consul General in Kolkata.
LaFave had also served at the US Consulate General in Chennai as Public Affairs Officer. Hailing from New Hampshire, she joined the Foreign Service in 1998. LaFave holds a bachelor’s degree from Smith College in Massachusetts and a master’s degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia; both in American Studies, according to the release.
In 2011, she earned another master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, National Defense University.
