Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has asked India Inc to utilise the services of ex-servicemen as “Army Personnel can officially retire but certainly not get tired.”

Jaitley, who also is the Finance Minister, said, “Corporate India requires trained and disciplined manpower and the ex-servicemen provide a big pool of such people. Their commitment to work is paramount, their discipline is very high and they have worked in difficult conditions.”

He was addressing a Directorate General of Resettlement (DGR) Conclave organised here. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between industry body CII and DGR.

According to DGR, nearly 60,000 army men retire every year. Out of this around 44 per cent are in the age group of 40-50, while 33 per cent are in the 35-40 group. This clearly shows that majority of those retiring can opt for a second career stint for another 10 to 25 years. However, only 20,000 get post retirement jobs.

Awareness sessions

The MoU aims to organise awareness sessions on the availability of skilled ex-servicemen for suitable placement in the industry.

There will be webinars to enhance the awareness about the skill sets required for absorption into industry besides circulating the information about the location specific availability of the skilled manpower for industry from DGR.

CII will support the job fairs/career facilitation seminars organised by DGR.

This memorandum will facilitate employment of ex-servicemen in industry, especially in SMEs, thereby providing a second career post-retirement.
