The modalities of the life cover of Rs 30,000 promised under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana were still being worked out by policymakers.
Indications are that life insurance behemoth LIC may roll out this facility as a group insurance product.
The group that could be covered are the rupay cardholders under this programme, sources close to the developments said.
Top officials of the LIC, Indian Banks Association and National Payments Corporation of India brainstormed the issue of life cover with senior officials of Finance Ministry at a meeting here on Monday.
"The meeting was inconclusive. Details are still being worked out. It will take few days before some finality can be achieved on this front", sources said.
