Following its deal with Etihad, Jet Airways is planning to shut down its Visakhapatnam operations, according to sources.
The airline withdrew its Vizag-Chennai service from Monday. The airline is said to be keen on operating only on the trunk routes. Jet Airways is planning to withdraw its flights to Kolkota, Mumbai and Bangalore and wind up its operations from Vizag from June 1. The airline is also said to have written to the Airports Authority of India, announcing its decision to vacate the rooms provided to it by June 20.
The airline management has sent letters to its employees giving them a few options, including asking them to be prepared for transfer or face the prospect of putting in their papers. Contract workers, hired by an agency to handle the airline’s luggage, have also been told that they would have to leave by May 31.
