Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD), a global locomotive manufacturer, has set up a new facility at Noida to better serve Indian Railways and other global customers.
The facility is aimed at making India a global hub for export of locomotive systems and control equipment and also providing support services, such as overhaul of components, a statement from the company said. Through the new facility, EMD strives to increase its local participation and create jobs in India without sharing the investment or the staff strength.
Earlier, the products being manufactured here were imported, a company official said. According to Billy Ainsworth, Progress Rail and EMD president and chief executive officer, “In order to provide effective support to Indian Railways, we have increased our indigenisation in India by inaugurating our new facility in Noida.”
