PM to inaugurate biodiversity meet in Oct

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh will inaugurate the Conference of Parties—the Global Biodiversity Meet slated for October.

The Conference on Biodiversity will be held during October 1-19, at the Hyderabad International Convention centre. More than 8,000 delegates from 193 countries are expected to participate.

The Andhra Pradesh Government is now stepping up works including the infrastructure to facilitate smooth conduct of the mega summit being held in India for the first time.

The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy today directed the officials to ensure that all arrangements are completed well in advance of the meet.

Delegates from about 190 countries and Heads of Governments and Ministers from various countries are likely to participate. It is conservatively estimated that 5,000 delegates will attend the conference on an average everyday.

The Chief Minister released special brochures, booklets and posters on the Biodiversity conference.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation is improving roads along a stretch of 120 km. The CoP-11 will be held during October 1-5, Meeting of Parties (MoP) on Bio-safety Cartigena Protocol will be held during October 8-9 and Conference of Parties (CoP-11) during 17-19.

The State Government has released an additional amount of Rs 253.50 crore to 12 departments besides meeting the balance Rs 203.50 crore from their internal budget out of total requirement of Rs 456 crore.
