The total corpus of the pension fund as on March 31, 2013 stood at ₹1,83,405.36 crore.
In 2012-13, the employers contributed ₹14,734.01 crore and ₹1,400 crore, respectively, to the fund, Minister of State for Labour K Suresh told the Lok Sabha in a written reply on Monday.
However, to meet the requirements of enhanced minimum pension of ₹1,000/month, the Finance Ministry had agreed to provide budgetary support for 2014-15 on an actual basis amounting to ₹1,217.03 crore with the stipulation that further adjustment shall be made based on an actual variation and subject to certain conditions, he added.
He said necessary action for soliciting requisite approval was underway.
About 29 lakh pensioners, getting a measly amount ranging from ₹150 to 800/month stand to benefit once the pension is enhanced.
