In a bid to simplify the process of Aadhaar linked verification for recipients, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced a new security feature to its mobile app mAadhaar.
In an official statement, Ajay Bhushan Pandey, CEO, UIDAI, said, “In future, all one-time password (OTP) based Aadhaar authentication applications will be migrated to Temporary One Time Password (TOTP) based Aadhaar authentication.”
An eight-digit long numeric string generated as one-time temporary password (OTP) by an algorithm and valid only for 30 seconds, he added.
Now the Aadhaar linked verification services sends an SMS containing a one-time password to the mobile number associated with an Aadhaar id. Under the new service, the mAadhaar app will continuously generate a password every 30 seconds for each recipient separately.
