The anti-graft helpline set up by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Government in Delhi received 3,904 calls in seven hours on Thursday.
“Of these, 53 complaints are of very serious nature,” said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, addressing a press conference.
He added that only 38 people had agreed to conduct a sting operation.
He said the recordings of some ‘stings’ were very good and the anti-corruption department had already swung into action.
Kejriwal also announced that another four-digit helpline number would be in place by Friday.
After the “huge response”, the AAP Government has decided to double the number of helpline staff to 30 by Friday.
Fulfilling his third promise, after water and electricity, Kejriwal announced the launch of the helpline on Wednesday.
If a complaint received by the helpline is considered serious, a team of officials will help the complainant conduct a sting operation on mobile phones to trap the accused. The case will be pursued within 24 hours, once the Government’s vigilance team gets evidence, the Chief Minister said.
Grievance DAY Kejriwal also announced that every Saturday, he and his Cabinet would listen to citizens’ grievances outside the Delhi Secretariat, between 9 and 11 a.m.
The AAP, which rose to power riding on an anti-graft plank, hopes to cash in on its performance in Delhi to make a mark in the Lok Sabha elections due later this year.
