The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, has expressed his deep grief and condolences over the death of India’s most loved cartoonist R K Laxman.
The Chief Minister said that R K Laxman has always had a rather unique way of looking at things. “His ‘Common Man’ cartoons have lampooned just about every aspect of political and social life over the past five decades.”
He added that many generations in India have been witness to the legendary cartoonist’s acerbic wit and curious insights. He spoke the language of the common man through his cartoons, the Chief Minister recalled.
Calling him a gifted storyteller, the Chief Minister said that he approached the canvas with a keen sense of humour and a dash of satire, offering a whimsical, cock-eyed view about everything.
He was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan and also won many awards for his cartoons, including the Ramon Magsaysay Award and others.
