The first session of the new Andhra Pradesh Assembly begins on Wednesday, and the newly-elected MLAs will be sworn in by the protem Speaker, China Appala Naidu.

Ruling YSR Congress Party and the opposition Telugu Desam Party are gearing up for the session.

The former chief minister and TDP leader, N Chandrababu Naidu, held a meeting of TDP legislature party on Tuesday and exhorted the TDP leaders not to get intimidated by “the frequent attacks on TDP leaders after the electoral loss”. The mettle of a leader is really tested only when he or she is in the opposition, he remarked.

He also expressed concern over the future of the many projects launched by the TDP Government, Amaravati, the new capital, and other schemes. He said the pace of progress should not suffer because of the decisions of the new Government.

Ummareddy Venkateswarlu, a senior YSRCP leader, said it was regrettable that the former CM was making such statements not based on facts. Chief Minister Jaganmohan Reddy had not talked of halting any project, but only probing irregularities , he clarified.
