The Union Government is taking steps to fulfill the promise made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi of providing housing for all by 2022 and Andhra Pradesh has been sanctioned 1,92,000 houses under a central housing scheme for the low-income groups, according to Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu.

At a media conference here on Friday, he explained the criteria for sanctioning houses under the scheme and said Andhra Pradesh had responded first and entered into a memorandum of understanding with the Union Government. As a result, 1,92,000 houses had been sanctioned for the State. Other states would also get their share in course of time, he added.

Venkaiah Naidu said the scheme would be implemented in 59 towns and cities of the state and Visakhapatnam would also get more than 20,000 houses under the scheme.

In response to a question on rising prices, especially pulses, he said the inflation was under control but due to certain factors the prices of pulses had risen abnormally in recent times, but steps were being taken to bring them under control.

He also launched a scathing attack on Congress and left parties for what he described as "an orchestrated campaign against the Modi Government for alleged intolerance''.
