Leading Bollywood actor Sridevi of the 80s and 90s, who scorched the silver screen passed away following a cardiac arrest in Dubai.
The Padma Shri awardee was 54 years old. The actor, who had starred in cult films like Mr India, Chaalbaaz, Chandni, and Lamhe, had worked in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam film besides a Hindi.
Sridevi, who had been working in the movies for nearly five decades, received six filmfare awards over the years.
The actor, who faced the camera as a child artiste, started her career in Moondru Mudichi in 1976. The actor had also made her small screen debut with sitcom
Meanwhile, Twitterati reacted with shock over the passing away of the legend.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the death of legendary actor Sridevi.
Modi tweeted, "saddened by the untimely demise of noted actor Sridevi. She was a veteran of the film industry, whose long career included diverse roles and memorable performances. My thoughts are with her family and admirers in this hour of grief. May her soul rest in peace: PM".
The Indian National Congress too extended its condolences to the late actress. "We regret to hear about the passing away of Sridevi. An actor par excellence. A legend who will continue to live in our hearts through her stellar body of work. Our deepest condolences to her loved ones. She was awarded the Padma Shri by the UPA Govt in 2013," the INC tweeted.
