Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Friday crticised the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress for objecting to a CBI probe into the Saradha scam.

“Where did the money go? Who benefited from the scam? People want answers to these questions,” he told media persons during an interaction.

The Trinamool Congress, which has been in the line of political fire over the last few days, following the Enforcement Directorate issuing summons to some of its ministers, senior leaders and candidates contesting the upcoming polls, has been opposing a CBI probe into the scam.

“Why is the party (TMC) opposing a CBI probe? What are they afraid of?” the former Chief Minister questioned.

In its bid to stave off rivals, particularly, the Left Front, TMC claimed that it was during the Left Front rule that chit funds and deposit-taking companies mushroomed in the state.

“There were many things that we put an end too during our tenure. Just because some deposit-taking companies mushroomed during our tenure, it does not mean we are at fault,” Bhattacharjee pointed out.

According to him, TMC has not yet been able to prove any involvement of the Communists in the Saradha scam. “We (Left Front) have absolutely nothing to hide,” he claimed.
