The Minister of Women and Child Development has constituted a committee to finalise the media campaign against indecent portrayal of women in movies, TV shows and advertisements. In a meeting of the Committee of Secretaries, it was decided that a campaign will be launched against negative, indecent and stereotyped projection of women in the mass media.
The Committee will be led by Ratna Prabha, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Women and Child Development, while the members will be from The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity , Minister of I&B, besides National Mission for Empowerment of Women. The committee will, “finalise modalities of a media campaign, through print and electronic media, to instil a sense of respect for women in all spheres of life.”
It will suggest an innovative campaign and strategy to project women in a more positive, proactive and empowered manner, which can have maximum impact on the society and bring about an attitudinal and behavioural change of people towards women, the Ministry said in a statement.
