The Union Government will soon convene an inter-State meeting to prevent child trafficking and child labour.
Reacting sharply to reports of widespread use of child labour in the bangle manufacturing industry in Hyderabad, the Union Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Bandaru Dattatreya, said that the views of the stakeholders' states would be taken to evolve a national policy on the issue.
The Telangana police had raided the shady bangle manufacturing facilities in the State capital and rescued about 400 children who were being forced to work under harsh conditions. Majority of the children hail from Bihar and were being rehabilitated by the State.
“The Union Government will coordinate with Bihar and Telangana Governments to ensure proper rehabilitation of all children that were rescued,” the Minister said here on Sunday.
“It (exploitation of children) is totally unacceptable. We will have to make efforts to end child labour,” he said.
