DMK today asked the Centre to provide a revival proposal to save the Ooty-based Hindustan Photo Films Manufacturing Company (HPF), a public sector unit, which is employing over 700 employees.
A delegation of DMK leaders led by its Parliamentary Party leader T R Baalu called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum.
Though a viable revival proposal had been recommended to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), it had not considered the HPF revival proposal while the Government came forward to revive many sick PSUs such as Scooter India Ltd, Burn Standard, NEPA, ITI Ltd and Bharat Wagon with a pragmatic appoach.
“In spite of dedication and goodwill reposed by the employees, the company could not meet the challenges of multinational companies because of non-availability of level playing field while getting the raw materials and MNCs operation facility in the tax free zones”, he said.
