Its was chaos at Rajaji Hall where thousands of people have been visiting since morning to pay their last respects to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who had passed away last night.
A lot of people entered the huge complex but refused to move causing hindrance to others.
Entrance to the hall for public was from Anna Salai and exit at Sivananda Salai. However, people entered from all directions and even climbed the wall from the adjacent police quarters to enter the huge complex.
AIADMK supporters were angry that a lot of priority was given to VIPs, while they had to spend hours to get entry. Many tried to break the barricades and fences.
"It's a huge crowd. We are trying our best to control it," said a policeman on duty. Over 3,000 policemen are on duty in and around Rajaji Hall, he said.
Some people even climbed trees to get a glimpse of the departed leader and those coming to pay their last respects.
Water was not available and only a couple of temporary toilets were available at the venue.
