Congress leader from Kerala K C Venugopal on Monday accused private airlines of “rampant cheating” by charging exorbitant fares to Bengaluru at a time when Chennai airport was closed due to floods following unprecedented rains.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Venugopal demanded the Centre’s intervention to stop private airlines from overcharging, "instead of helping people who were suffering''.
He said some private carriers were charging between Rs 50,000-70,000 for a round ticket from Delhi to Bengaluru. Venugopal was supported by many MPs, including from the AIADMK, which heads the Tamil Nadu Government.
