As a well-marked low-pressure continues to toy with the north Tamil Nadu coast leading to some of the heaviest and sustained rainfall in recent memory, there are fresh signs that another wave of organised rainfall may be in order sooner than later.
Global models indicate the possibility of fresh wave materialising between November 19 and November 24 and originating from the Bay of Bengal.
Target North
The rains (anchored by a likely easterly wave) may get initiated near the Andaman and Nicobar Islands over the next four days, consolidate in the Southwest Bay of Bengal and hit the Tamil Nadu coast.
North coastal Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, should be prepared for another round of wet spell during this phase, though not as heavy as the ongoing one, forecasts indicate.
The moderate to at times heavy rain may last until November 28.
Heavy rain
Meanwhile, the heavy to very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall pounded Chennai and neighbourhood as well as adjoining south coastal Andhra Pradesh and until Monday morning.
Some of the heaviest rainfall recorded in cm are: Meenambakkam-27; Nungambakkam-25; Tirupathi-22; Vellore-14; Kavali, Nellore and Puducherry-11 cm; and Cuddalore-7 cm.
