The BJP government at the Centre missed doing so in this Lok Sabha session, but it is certain it will pass the Bill for a total ban on child labour in the next session of Parliament, according to Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya.
The legislation calls for a stringent complete ban on employment of children below 14 in any form, in any industry. Further, it disallows children aged 14-18 from working in hazardous areas.
The Bill could not be brought up during the monsoon session, which was a near total washout, said Dattatreya at a Roundtable on Smart Cities and Stakeholders here on Tuesday.
The Union Minister said his aim is to turn Hyderabad into a slum-free city. There is also an urgent need to curb issues like child labour, he added.
“I will take up these issues with both the Telangana government and the Centre,” he told the session organised here on Tuesday by the Foundation for Future Cities.
