monsoon

Clouding over the Bay of Bengal has extended along the East Coast covering West Bengal, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh this morning.

The causative upper air cyclonic circulation persisted over Northeast Bay of Bengal, an update from India Met Department said.

Trough over land

The land-based trough extending from Eastern Bihar dipping into East-Central Bay of Bengal too persisted, providing supportive environment for the circulation to prosper.

Model outlook, however, indicates that this will take time given that a low-pressure area had been active in these parts (West Bengal/Bangladesh) till the other day.

Any fresh ‘low’ will need to start from a vacuum to build up enough energy to hoist itself and sustain in an environment not conducive for intense monsoon activity.

The month of June normally sees three or four ‘lows’ marching in a procession from the Bay and heading into either Central India or Northwest India.

Thunderstorm forecast

Meanwhile, redundant moisture supplied by feeble southeasterly flows and a passing western disturbance has been triggering thunderstorm activity over Northwest and East India.

The Met has forecast more such activity during the course of the day over an entire area extending from Punjab to Northeast India.

Himachal Pradesh, Uttrakhand, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gangetic and entire Northeast India will witness thunderstorms.
