Public sector undertaking thermal power generators need to strengthen their coal mining arms, according to Minister of State (Independent Charge), R K Singh.
Speaking at a conference on power plant flexibility organised by NTPC, Singh said, “NTPC, DVC and all these companies need to become adept at mining coal. Your coal mining wing needs to be strengthened and you must operationalise all the mines that you have.”
“In fact, you need to get more coal mines so that coal is not the issue. That is something we have to do to meet coal demand,” Singh added.
“I don’t see that many coal mines coming into operation to meet all our demand by 2030. In fact, the number of coal mines is not sufficient to meet the current demand of the installed capacity in the thermal field. That’s why there are so many plants in the thermal field which are idle,” Singh said.
