Three candidates from Coimbatore’s Gedee Technical Training Institute—Anuradh Mohan, P Sarathviswesh and Tamil Selvan—are among the 28 competitors representing India at the WorldSkills Competition 2017 now underway at Abu Dhabi.
The competition popularly known as “Skill Olympics” is organised in Abu Dhabi between October 14 and 19.
According to a National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) release, India is participating in 26 categories each having a team of competitor, an expert and a required interpreter at WorldSkills Competition.
The trio from Coimbatore will be competing against those from over 70 countries across the globe. In all, the candidates from Team India will compete against 1,200 competitors across 50 skills at this biennial competition.
Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship said that the 28 candidates were trained under Skill India Mission. He further said that the government’s endeavour is towards achieving the Prime Minister’s dream of making India the Skill Capital of the world.
Manish Kumar, Managing Director, NSDC, said that the team from India are great ambassadors for skills. The Corporation identified all the competitors through a series of competitions organised at the regional and national levels over the past two years, after which they underwent extensive training with industry partners. Some of them have even travelled overseas and were trained by international experts, he said.
