The Congress (I) today unveiled a 100-day agenda for Telangana if it were to form a government in the new state.
A committee, chaired by party president Sonia Gandhi, will be set up to monitor its progress, as also implementation of the promises made by it in its election manifesto, Jairam Ramesh, Union Minister for Rural Development, said.
First in the list is the setting up of a district reorganisation committee, which will chart out the roadmap for reorganising the districts in the new state and increase them from 10 to 20, K Raju, Chairman of AICC wing, told media persons here.
Other points in the agenda include loan waiver for two lakh farmers, increase in pension amount for certain categories of people, setting up of a public service commission, which will submit a plan to create one lakh jobs, increasing the retirement age to 60 years, roadmap for setting up a high court and finalise plans to provide a grant of Rs one lakh for women self- help group.
Giving the credit for formation of the new state to the party, Jairam Ramesh admitted that the party was “under pressure” and facing “difficulties” in Seemandhra after its decision to bifurcate the state.
“Despite this, we went ahead with the formation of the new State. It was easy for the Telangana Rashtra Samithi to demand for a new state, but we know the difficulties in actually forming the new state,” he said.
