The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) hunt for stolen or leaked government documents has now reached the Ministries of Finance and Commerce.
On Thursday, the CBI conducted searches at six locations in Delhi and two in Mumbai in the case of alleged leak/sale of confidential government documents. Three people have been detained, including a chartered accountant from whose home and office ₹60 lakh was recovered. The names of the locations were not revealed.
Sources indicated that the Finance and Commerce Ministry documents related to foreign investments.
“Documents were allegedly sold for a consideration by government officials to a Mumbai-based chartered accountant, who, in turn, passed them on to various corporate houses,” an official said.
The lid on this ‘corporate espionage’ — stealing / purchasing confidential government documents — was blown open last month in the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas.
