The Gurgaon district administration has decided to add the cost of a newspaper which was being published in favour of the Aam Aadmi Party without proper registration here, to the election expenditure of AAP candidate Yogendra Yadav.
The District Media Certification and Monitoring Committee has found it to be a violation of the Model Code of Conduct and decided to add the cost of newspaper Aap Ki Kranti to the election expenditure of Yadav.
In addition, the Committee has recommended action in line with the law for distribution of the unregistered newspaper, Committee Chairman-cum-Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi said.
Yadav said Aap Ki Kranti is not a newspaper and it is only a pamphlet which was being published for distribution to AAP workers and not amongst the public.
Under Section 15 of the Press and Registration of Books Act, 1867, any person who prints or publishes a newspaper without conforming to the rules may be punished with fine not exceeding ₹2,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.
