The Patiala House Court has granted bail to all the six activists belonging to Students Federation of India (SFI), who were arrested by the Delhi police earlier during the day.
The six activists including SFI General Secretary, Ritabrata Bandhopadhyay, were arrested on Monday morning for allegedly assaulting West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra outside the Planning Commission office on April 9. Two of the six arrested were women.
Charges have been pressed under Sections 353 (assault), 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant) and 143 and 149 (relating to unlawful assembly) of Indian Penal Code.
The SFI members had also allegedly blocked Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s passage in front of Yojna Bhavan, while she was headed for a meeting with the members of Planning Commission.
The Chief Minister reportedly fell ill, subsequently, and was administered oxygen, while Mitra was put under observation at AIIMS.
