The Dredging Corporation of India (DCI) Non-Executive Employees Union served a strike notice on the management on Wednesday to protest against the Central government’s decision to sell its entire stake of 73.47 per cent.
The strike may commence on or after December 6, according to the notice.
Minister intervenesThe strike notice was served in spite of the assurance of the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Chemicals and Fertilisers, Mansukh Laxman Mandaviya, who visited the corporate office of DCI on Wednesday.
The DCI staff, agitating for the past 10 days, wore black badges to show their protest against the government’s proposal for strategic sale of DCI.
The union submitted a memorandum to the minister and expressed its concern over the government’s move, urging him to impress upon the Central government to not privatise DCI.
The minister, while interacting with the employees and union members, gave them an assurance that he had gone through the files of DCI, and that there was no such proposal with regard to the strategic sale of DCI.
He assured the, that DCI would continue as a public sector undertaking in Visakhapatnam as the company serves the interests of the ports, the Navy and the country as a whole.
