A special court in the Indian capital said it would deliver on Friday the sentence for four men found guilty in a December 16 gang-rape case.
Fast-track judge Yogesh Khanna heard arguments on the sentencing from the defence and the prosecution on Wednesday, but reserved the sentencing itself for Friday.
The prosecution called for the death sentence for all four, saying capital punishment was appropriate for the case that showed extreme depravity.
Lawyers for the defence presented a range of arguments and said their clients’ cases did not qualify as the rarest of rare cases in which a death penalty should be given.
