In tandem with the transition in Rashtrapati Bhavan after Ram Nath Kovind took over as the country’s 14th President on Tuesday, social networking site Twitter India, too, worked out a smooth transition of handles.
“The new President Ram Nath Kovind will now use the official President of India account: @rashtrapatibhvn,” said a statement from Twitter India, adding that “changes will take place today, July 25”.
“The official Twitter account of Rashtrapati Bhavan is run by the President’s Secretariat. Tweets from the President are signed — President Kovind,” read the handle profile, which had 3.28 million followers till the evening and was following one – President Pranab Mukherjee’s official account, which has been archived with the handle @POI13.
“Those who are following @rashtrapatibhvn will now automatically follow both accounts,” said the statement.
It may be recalled that US President Donald Trump was handed over the official @POTUS handle by Barack Obama, but had to build his own followers from scratch. However, Trump continues to actively tweet from his personal handle @realDonaldTrump, which has 34.5 million followers against @POTUS, which has 19.5 million followers.
