Veteran Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar was admitted to a hospital in India’s western city of Mumbai after he complained of chest pains, news reports said on Monday.
The 90-year-old actor who suffers from a heart ailment was rushed to the Lilavati hospital on Sunday night, the Times of India daily reported. Doctors said his condition was stable but he was under observation.
Kumar family aides denied reports that he had suffered a heart attack, the IANS news agency reported.
Kumar is popularly known across the Indian sub-continent as the “King of Tragedy” for his roles in Bollywood classics since the 1940s.
Born in Pakistan’s Peshawar city in 1922 as Muhammad Yusuf Khan, he changed his name to Dilip Kumar when he began in Bollywood. Kumar has acted in over 60 films in a six-decade long career. He has won many Indian film awards and served as a member of the Parliament.
