Domestic airlines flew 1.15 crore passengers in July this year, registering a growth of 21.79 per cent over the 95.65 lakh passengers carried in the same period last year.
The latest data released by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation show that IndiGo, which flew 48.65 lakh passengers in July, retained its number one position.
How they fared
Jet Airways, which flew 15.76 lakh passengers, was at second spot, followed by Air India (14.30 lakh passengers) and SpiceJet (14.27 lakh passengers). AirAsia flew 5.58 lakh passengers while Vistara carried 4.51 lakh passengers.
IndiGo also reported the best On Time Performance of 85.5 per cent among all the airlines at the four metro airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru, followed by SpiceJet (80.6 per cent) and Jet Airways and JetLite (76.7 per cent), Vistara (77.6 per cent) and Air India (domestic) at 67.5 per cent.
However, in terms of passenger load factor, SpiceJet lead the domestic airlines as it reported a passenger load factor of 93.8 per cent.
It was followed by IndiGo at 88.7 per cent, GoAir at 87.2 per cent and Vistara (84.1 per cent). Passenger load factor shows how many of the seats on offer by airlines are filled.
Compensation paid
The domestic airline industry paid over ₹2.9 crore to over 1.5 lakh passengers, including ₹1.4 crore to over 1.3 lakh passengers, for flight delays. The industry also paid over ₹1 crore to over 2,000 passengers who were denied boarding.
Commenting on the latest passenger traffic data, Shilpa Bhatia, Chief Sales and Revenue Officer, Spicejet, said that July 2018 marked the 40th month in a row that the airline has flown with the highest loads in the country.
