Immediately after studies, management students should start their own business, face challenges, learn the trade themselves and pave way for creating a strong business model, B. Soundararajan, Managing Director, Suguna Holdings Ltd, Coimbatore, said here recently.

Speaking at the inauguration of Business Line Club at Knowledge Business School, jointly organised by The Hindu Business Line and Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd, he said that salary should not be the prime focus for students looking for a job.

Instead, students should apply the knowledge gained through education and become entrepreneurs.

He said that interaction with many people have taught him new management practices and helped him to expand his small business that was started for survival into a Rs 5,000 crore empire.

“It is not money alone, but simple ideas and ethical practices helped to build a sustainable business model,” he said.

Pradip, Regional Manager, Tamilnad Mercantile Bank Ltd, Coimbatore, called for management students to work in rural areas for upliftment of farmers.

An interactive session that saw students raising questions about business ethics, practices and strategies adopted was also held at the end of the session.
