“It is imperative and important to be a good listener to become a good communicator,” said Ketan Bhatt, Vice-President, HR, Secure Meters Ltd, while addressing students of Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), M.L. Sukhadia University, Udaipur. The programme was held at the campus by Business Line Club in association with energy corporation Cairn India, to reach out to the future corporate leaders.
Bhatt told students on how to improve their communication skills, and explained at length the barriers of communication and the entire process while describing how to be a good communicator. The presentation was incorporated with videos and fun exercises which made the entire session interesting. Bhatt said that best communication consists of 80 per cent listening and 20 per cent speaking. He also described different types of listeners — active, passive and those pretending to be listening but paying no attention.
Ayodhya Prasad Gaur, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Cairn Ltd, while giving a brief introduction of his company drew attention on the stakeholders of their life — mind, body and soul — and emphasised the importance of satisfying the needs of these valuable stakeholders.
The associate professors of FMS — Anil Kothari, Hanuman Prasad and Meera Mathur — also attended the session.
The Business Line Club initiative seeks to provide students with a campus interface between industry and academia, allowing the two to work with each other and evolve current practices in industry.
