One should be a leader from the leaders and not leader from the followers, said Prof. H K Bedi, Director, JIET, Jodhpur. Bedi was delivering a lecture on ‘Shift Management’ at Faculty of Management Studies, Jodhpur National University, Jodhpur. The campus interface with the corporate world was organised by Business Line in association with Cairn India – the fastest growing energy company in the world.

Bedi pointed out that the future manager should emphasise on learning organisation in place of earning organisation in today’s cut throat competitive world. Future managers should also keep in mind the service market instead of market driver because customer is the king of market. They should look for global benchmark instead of national benchmark.

He added that India is a country of ample opportunities. He also gave an example as to how the launch of Maruti in 1986 changed the prospects and options for the customers. Future managers should keep in mind that change is inevitable, we should always keep innovations in our organisation to keep ahead of others.

Due to flexi hours, organisations are getting more productive, he said. Future managers should always keep their team members for training, should enhance their soft skills, use latest technology. They should always have camaraderie in their organisation to keep their team members motivated.

Gaurav Lodha, Dean, Faculty of Management Studies, Jodhpur National University, Jodhpur was present during the guest lecture.
