“There is always a myth in the minds of students that they will be regarded as freshers. They always face the ‘fear of rejection’ whenever they appear for an interview,” said Rajiv Arora, Senior Manager, Firstrain Inc.

Arora was addressing the students of Apeejay School of Management, Dwarka, on how to crack the first interview. It was organised by Business Line under the aegis of BL Club – a campus initiative with energy corporation Cairn India.

The lecture focussed on providing answers to the questions which are at the back of the student’s mind. Arora stressed on the need for the candidate to be at ease and give direction to the course of the interview by starting with a smile, know how to frame answers around yourself, quantify your achievements, be thorough with your projects, industry terminology and be well acquainted with five biggest companies, mergers and current news. All these need to be backed with facts and figures. The emphasis should be how the candidate and his ideas will contribute to the company.

Students need to focus on their resume and keywords to be used. This enables one to get good job opportunities in the open market as well as companies visiting the institutions for placements. Arora discussed about various job portals and how to locate desired resume in the net by using right keywords. “Resume must cover what you want to sell.”

He also spoke about availability of data and information in today’s world and the need to choose what is required, use the correct tools to analyse it and utilise it to solve the problems at hand.

Alok Saklani, Director of Apeejay School of Management and Suresh Bedi, Dean of the institute, were also present. The BL Club initiative aims at providing an interface between the industry and academia to evolve new practices in the industry.
