Motivation is the key to success. It is therefore important to kindle the drive within oneself to achieve goals in life, said N. Venkatesh, Chief Executive Officer, Innovative Services, Chennai.

Urging management students at Sri Ramakrishna Engineering College here to be more responsible in life, Venkatesh said, “without motivation/ enthusiasm, you will not be able to attract even the people around you. This is a basic thing; aim high and strive to achieve your goal in life by staying focused and not giving up easily.”

“Dream of achievable, realistic goal; plan properly, understand your potential, interact with peer groups and move towards achieving your target. There is nothing called ‘top’. You should aim at something, and after reaching that, move to the next higher level,” he said.

He was speaking at the launch of the Business Line Club at SREC, an initiative sponsored by Tamilnad Mercantile Bank.

Advocating the need to chase one’s goal with patience and perseverance, the CEO said, recalled the story of an illiterate helper to a priest, who rose from rags to riches. ‘Sheer pressure and the will to survive made the helper emerge a super rich man in life. Likewise, you should understand your responsibilities and take life seriously.

“A small effort could go along way towards achieving your goal. However, to be an extraordinary person, you should put more effort.”

“Don’t lose hope though. Opportunity can come in different ways and when it does, do not ignore. Success is only a process and will not come overnight. To stay motivated, you should indulge in a process,” he said. Also present at the meeting were K. Chitra, Director, Department of Management Studies and N.R. Alamelu, Principal, SREC.
