Business leadership marks a spirit that does not rest until the goal is achieved in a business environment, said Prof. K.R. Raja Govindasamy, Director, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai.

Sensing a eureka moment of an opportunity in terms of a business process or a product, business leadership envisions an effort and doggedly pursues the same against all odds to make it a viable and successful commercial venture that serves a larger societal interest, he said while addressing a meeting of the Business Line Club of Madurai Management Association (MMA), here on Sunday.

The event was sponsored by Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB), Tuticorin.

Speaking on “Stay Hungry…. Stay Foolish” (Showcasing Business Leadership), he said that success has not been a cake walk for many. A leader in business emerges when he/she chooses to stay the course and be in the business with principles and follow a strategy with a willingness to undergo trails and tribulations, constantly engaging in a self-renewal process. This is best revealed in success stories of those who have taken the road less travelled. An inner urge and a long and hard effort with resilience marks the journey, he pointed out.

A principled approach distinguishes the core in the effort, such as professionalism combined with transparency and honest means in operations, ensuring quality of products and consumer satisfaction throughout.

Elaborating, he cited the growth of Tatas, who started in a hostile environment and built a great organisation in the country, earning an identity and brand value; Lijjad Pappad, that started in a small way and grew into a multi-crore business; the 25 graduates of the Indian Institute Management -Ahmedabad, who giving up lucrative job positions, turned into successful entrepreneurs. History of the world is the history of great men and women who were pioneers in their chosen fields, he observed.

He concluded saying that success becomes significant when benefits are shared.

M. Shunmugasundaram Secretary, MMA and C. Kathiresan, Chief Manager, TMB, Madurai region were present.
