The Teachers Recruitment Test (TET) exam held in the State on Sunday was marked by chaos, with several candidates failing to reach examination venues .

While several candidates could not make it to the centre on time due to transport disruptions in various parts of the State, several others alleged that they were misinformed about the venue. Over 50 lakh candidates in the State were to appear for the TET exam, which is mandatory for applying for a primary teacher’s post.

The West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) is looking into the possibility of conducting a re-exam for candidates who could not appear for the exam.

According to WBBPE President Manik Bhattacharya, transport issues in several parts of the State caused inconvenience to a number of candidates.

“In West Midnapore district, a truck had overturned creating huge traffic problem. That apart, in North- and South-24 Parganas, train services were affected while in Murshidabad two level crossings were closed down due to some reason, thereby affecting train movement,” Bhattacharya said.

The test was to be held between 1 pm and 2 pm. However, keeping in view the traffic situation, WBBPE allowed candidates to walk in before 1.55 pm to take the test.

“We are looking at what legally can be done for genuine candidates with a valid admit card who failed to attend exam for reasons beyond their control,” he said.
