West Bengal Higher Education Minister Bratya Basu today said foreign investment can be allowed in private educational institutions but they have to conform to a standard.

“The particular standard has to be stipulated by academics only, involved in running such institutions and not by persons outside and conform to the state’s policy,” Basu said at a function here in Burdwan University.

Basu also said no partisan politics will henceforth be allowed in educational institutions, “unlike in the past several years.”

To make higher education reach every corner, his department prepared a map which had also been shown to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and pointing out the need to set up 200 more colleges and the exact number of institutions to be set up would be known by the last week of August.

Basu called for the need to institute a committee of successful, brilliant alumni in educational institutions for producing academic audit utilisation certificate to secure funds.
