The fundamental challenge in managing human resources (HR) in today’s business is tackling the speed at which changes are taking place across fields, according to Michael Driscoll, Vice-Chancellor, Middlesex University, London.

Delivering a talk on challenges in human resource aspects of businesses organised by the Hyderabad Management Association (HMA) herehe said “The massive, fast-paced social changes occurring in the Indian society over the last couple of decades has had a significant impact to human resource policies.” “The aspiration of people to be more prosperous in the context of physical/infrastructural changes had to be understood by the managers,” he added.

TEAM dynamics

Selecting the right mix of people to be part of a team that can deliver in line with organisational goals was another challenge, he pointed out.

“But, most people do not always have the luxury of choosing talent while building a team,’’ he said adding that the deployment of people in line with their skill sets would become vital exercise for businesses in the future.

Being able to engage team members in their work, and performance management at the micro and macro levels is also an important issue in today’s world.

“There has to be a better system for delegation of responsibilities,” he added.
