Madurai Kamaraj University here is planning to set up a windmill to meet its increasing energy requirements.
According to Kalyani Mathivanan, Vice-Chancellor, funding support has been sought from the State Government for the energy initiative under ‘Green Campus’ plans.
Since the university is situated on the foothills of Nagamalai hill range, establishing a windmill would be an ideal option.
The university has been taking several steps to become self-reliant in meeting electricity requirements and the proposals for solar and wind energy plans are part of those efforts.
Discussions are in progress with the agencies concerned to finalise plans and push solar and wind energy generation on a large scale, she said.
