Manipal University has set up a research and development centre in Manipal to develop products and services for geriatric care.
A press release said here that Manipal University, along with Applied Cognition Systems Pvt Ltd, Bangalore, has set up the centre at Manipal Centre for Information Science. The aim is to enhance self-reliance in elders and physically-challenged in making management easier for their caretakers.
Quoting P.S. Ramkumar, MD and co-founder of Applied Cognition Systems, the release said there is a need to develop new technologies to address various challenges associated with mobility, security, and appliance control and health management of elderly people in remote areas.
G.K. Prabhu, Registrar of Manipal University, spoke on the challenges faced by the elderly people.
Harishchandra Hebbar, Director of Manipal Centre for Information Science, and Sandeep from Applied Cognition Systems were present on the occasion, the release added.
